Shakeology is probably the most “pushed” item by BeachBody coaches. Visit Twitter, search “Shakeology,” and your computer or phone will start emanating smoke.
I tried Shakeology for the first time in the Spring of 2011. I was excited by its considerable hype, but also quite skeptical for the same reason. My take? It is indeed very healthy, but expensive. Many assume that Shakeology is a “protein shake,” and while it does offer a decent punch of protein at around seventeen grams, it is actually billed as a “meal replacement.” To this end, if it is in fact used to replace a meal, I feel it is a good value. If you are looking for just a protein shake, however, ON’s Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard is a better value, and it offers more protein per serving.
Many rave about the taste of Shakeology; it comes in three flavors—tropical strawberry, green berry, and chocolate. I like all three; I think they taste “natural.” I do not feel, however, that Shakeology sits perched on some “taste cloud” that floats above the ethers of all other powdered drinks.
